---|---|---|---|
The thriving town of Longford is situated close to the centre of Ireland on the Dublin-Sligo road. It is an ideal base from which to tour the midlands of the country. Near the centre of the town is St. Mel's Cathedral, a 19th century Renaissance style building of grey limestone. The saint's crozier is preserved in the diocesan museum at the rear of the cathedral.
