  'The Tar Heel State'  

Picture: Winston-Salem is located in the north-central piedmont region of North Carolina. Originally, founded as Salem in 1766 and Winston in 1849, the two towns combined in 1913 and formed Winston-Salem.  

Lucyna did send me a post card with a map on too but the town names weren't very visible and even less so once scanned so unfortunately I wasn't able to use it on my page but I hope you like the selection she sent that I did use.

Picture: For centuries, lighthouses have been erected to protect ships and guide them safely away from low shoals. Each lighthouse has individual markings making it readily identifiable from a distance. Advancements in technology have made the lighthouses obsolete, but most are open to the tourists and visitors providing a historic view of times gone by.
