Picture: Mt. St. Helens and Yale Lake: These scenes offer a dramatic comparison of before and during the volcanic eruptions. On the left the mountain's majestic beauty is captured, and on the right, the awesome power of the eruption is visible. The eruption occurred on May 18th 1980, the force blowing 1300 feet off the top, spreading ash eastward across the continent.
I found this card that Zeda sent particularly interesting because my parents were in Oregon not long after the eruption and they brought me back a T-shirt celebrating the occasion.
